Quotes of the day

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it.
- Helen Keller

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
but I have promises to keep,
and miles to go before I sleep.

Circle Trivia

Still rehashing the geography of this trip, I'm fascinated by the places I've been.

The Dalton Highway passes through the Arctic Circle and then continues 300 miles north to Prudhoe Bay.
As far as I can tell, Norway is the only place in the world where you can drive farther north than that, and only by about 40 miles. (There are places farther north, but not connected to the south by roads.)

Over a year ago, when I first dreamed of riding my bike to Prudhoe Bay, I considered how cool it would be to follow up this trip with another one that goes south.
I imagined riding down through South America until I reached a point as far south of the equator as Prudhoe Bay is north of it.

Well, that's not going to happen.    :-)

(See Antarctic Circle in red below).

Now go 300 miles beyond it.

I'll leave that adventure for you young guys!
