ROFL - the story gets better!
Since the Alaska Highway was closed in the Yukon, I chose to ride the Klondike Highway, a 140-mile road that dead-ends at the port of Skagway.
This morning, I started back to Whitehorse and made it to Canadian Customs where the nice officer informed me that the Klondike Highway is now closed.
He said that while they were cleaning up the landslide, the water undercut the road and washed it away. Now they are waiting for an engineer to arrive.
This is a major route for all the buses that carry tourists from the cruise ships north for excursions. There is only one cruise ship arriving today and two tomorrow. Then it ramps up to 4-5 per day. So there is a lot of pressure to get the road opened.
"Stranded in Skagway, Alaska"
Currently in the Sweet Tooth Cafe awaiting a LARGE breakfast order. ;-)
Life is good.
Wow! What a place to be stranded. Those cruise ships probably won't let you on with a Motorcycle will they? So it is either the Klondike Hwy or a ferry, then.
ReplyDeleteHope they get it sorted out soon!
Rick, and I thought you were would get "snowed" in....no one at work is going to believe that "the road got washed away" :-) It's got to be tough being stranded up there away from all the hassles (I mean hustle and bustle) of things around here! ;)
