Quotes of the day

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it.
- Helen Keller

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
but I have promises to keep,
and miles to go before I sleep.

Tidbits

Tomorrow, after some more bike work, I had considered going to Denali, but wasn't interested in driving there just to see a mountain hidden by clouds, like it is 3 out of 4 days.
Dan suggested I travel down the Richardson Highway for spectacular scenery.
As he described it, I decided I couldn't pass it up.
After that, I'll head to Chicken, AK, and the "Top of the World Highway" over to Dawson, Yukon and take the Yukon River ferry. I hope to have time to travel the Liard Highway up to the Northwest Territories.

No Province Left Behind!

:-)

Fuel:
From Coldfoot to Prudhoe Bay, I used 5.9 gal, and coming back, I used 4.6 gal from my 7.5 gal tank.
I can't explain the difference except that the filling stations are sometimes on uneven dirt instead of pavement, and the tank may be tilted, changing the amount of fuel it can take.

I've changed the blog to only show 5 posts instead of 20 so the first page won't take so long to load.
You can still read all the older posts by scrolling to the bottom and selecting "Older Posts", or clicking on "Archives" on the right.

Trivia:
  • Alaska's North Slope, near the \Arctic Ocean, receives 5 inches of precipitation per year. Half as much as Tuscon Arizona.
  • During winter hibernation, the Arctic Ground Squirrel's body temperature gets as low as 29F (-2C), but it doesn't freeze.

  1. Rick: Terrific trip, wonderful blog posts! Enjoy the Richardson, it is a great ride. Your fuel economy on the Dalton was excellent, glad you made that run. I'll continue to follow your dots and continue to pray my prayer for you, "May the road pass easily beneath your wheels, may all your mechanical needs be met, may your journey be devoid of encounters with stupid ones, may you be filled with joy and refreshed by the journey, may you return to love and peace."

    Ride one!

  3. Your midnight sun picture is priceless! The story behind it makes it all the more valuable! I treasure mine, not from the Arctic Circle but just after we anchored in Dago Creek off Ugashik Bay after a very good day of fishing. Make memories! Ride on!

    How are those tires doing?

    1. I was worried about how much damage the Daltonwood due to my tires, but they're still looking great. I just might be able to go all the way home with the set. Thanks, Rick.
