Quotes of the day

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.
Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it.
- Helen Keller

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
but I have promises to keep,
and miles to go before I sleep.
- Robert Frost

What a country!

What a change!
One day it's 60 degrees, dark and raining, the next day it's sunny and 95.
Must be something about that Mackinac Bridge.
Riding south into the sun, I'm making more sunscreen stops than fuel stops.   :-)

What a bridge!
From shore to shore, the Mackinac Bridge is 5 miles long. The pavement is 200 feet above the water at the peak.
The longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere.

What a campground! (Lake Michigan in the left background)

I continued south along Michigan's west coast and camped at Orchard Beach State Park. It's located on high bluffs above the lake and beach. There's a lot of steps down to the beach, but the beach is empty as far as you can see in both directions.  I'd really like to come back here.

What a wind!
After pitching my tent, I threw all my camping gear into it for ballast, and rode into town for a quick dinner. When I got back, my tent was upside down from the strong winds. This was just a taste of what was to come.

At 2:30 am, I was awakened by a passing storm that blew for an hour or so. There was lightning in the distance, but it didn't rain in the camp. Cell phone recording was from inside the zipped-up tent. (Yeah, I know. It doesn't sound like much, does it?)

On to Indiana and Ohio today.
I'm planning to stop and visit with my wife's brother, Don, in Ohio.
After that, it's back home on Friday.

Life is good.

    1. Yeah.
I shouldn't have even posted it. The sound comes through better on the cell phone I used to record it than on a PC.
